When you’re in the mood for high-end comfort food, look no further than the gastropubs in and around Carmel, New York. With a plethora of gourmet food offerings paired with unique beers, you’re sure to find a new favorite place to hang out. The team at Meadowland of Carmel invites you to check out these local gastropubs in Carmel, New York.

Klazy Jax

With a fantastic selection of whiskey, bourbon, rye, scotch, and tequila, plus 20 craft beers on tap and over 30 beers in a can or bottle, Klazy Jax is the perfect mix of fun and flavor. You can find them at 925 Route 6 in Mahopac. They are open at noon daily with closing time at midnight Sunday through Wednesday, 1 a.m. on Thursday, and who knows on Friday and Saturday because it depends on the crowd and how much fun everyone’s having.

The selection of craft beers rotates, but some of the ones available have included Abita Purple Haze, Goose Island IPA, Springhouse Blood Turning Black, and Cigar City Jai Alai IPA. Klazy Jax offers family meal deals with portions to feed a family of four and main course offerings such as chicken Francese, penne ala vodka, chicken picata, and Peruvian Lomo salteado. Each family meal comes with a house salad, two homemade empanadas, and two desserts.

Check out the slider menu at Klazy Jax, which includes London, Dallas, Seoul, New Orleans, Sicilia, Santorini, Istanbul, Nashville, and Hamburg options, each with a distinct taste, along with Beyond Sliders, a vegetarian option. Taco and quesadilla options include Puebla, Oaxaca, Michoacan, Itaewon, and Maui to name a few. You can also get fresh, homemade empanadas, a burrito, and pizza at Klazy Jax. Appetizers include a huge Bavarian pretzel, fire calamari, glazed chicken wings, and grilled shrimp pincho. Be sure to try one of their sandwiches, such as the Cuban-Reuben, Cajun catfish po’boy, or Piggly Wiggly burger.

As if those choices weren’t enough, Klazy Jax also offers entrees such as a 14-ounce T-bone served with buttermilk onion rings, side watercress salad, house steak sauce, and chimichurri. How about the Atlantic salmon, served either pan-roasted or grilled with sauteed spinach, mashed potatoes, and roasted red pepper fondue? Klazy Jax also has a selection of Bayou-inspired dishes such as jambalaya, voodoo chicken, or shrimp etouffee. This gastropub has a little bit of something for everyone to enjoy.

The Dutchess Biercafe

A Belgian-inspired gastropub, the Dutchess Biercafe is located at 1097 Main St. in Fishkill. They’re open Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from noon to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday until 10 p.m., and Sunday until 7 p.m. Tap beers include Allagash White, Bosteels Pauwel Kwak, Chimay Grand Reserve, Dubuisson Peche Mel, Spencer Russian Imperial Stout, and Van Steenberge Gulden Draak. Start your meal off with pretzel sticks, fried cheese curds, or roasted Brussel sprouts. A fan favorite is their poutine, fries smothered in gravy, New York cheese curds, and chives.

Try the Best of the Wurst, with knockwurst, bratwurst, weisswurst, amber ale sauerkraut, German house mustard, German potato salad, and pretzel sticks for a unique experience. Burger options include the Angry Burger with spicy glaze, pickled jalapenos, coleslaw, crispy onions, cheddar cheese, and chipotle mayonnaise on a brioche bun. You can also get chicken and waffles, a chicken club, or a Philly cheesesteak. The Dutchess also features Prince Edward Island mussels offered as classic, red curry, and Spanish flavors; each served with a baguette.

Mill House Brewing Company

The Mill House Brewing Company is located at 289 Mill St. in Poughkeepsie with hours from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday; and open until 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. Sundays, they serve brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and are open until 9 p.m. Craft beers include Cucumber Blessings, Hunting Saison, Winter Bloom, Grocery Getter, and more. Appetizers include fried calamari salad, Mill House poutine, fish tacos, and sesame chicken meatballs.

Mill House offers several pizza options, including chicken, bacon, ranch, and Korean BBQ pork. Classics include pretzel bites, fried pickle chips, and buffalo wings. Go with the baked chicken cordon bleu or smothered meatloaf for an entree. Mill House also has an incredible half rack of ribs served with shoestring fries, coleslaw, and cornbread. If you’re in the mood for a burger, check out the blue bacon mushroom burger topped with bacon, blue cheese, mushrooms, roasted garlic mayonnaise, and baby arugula on a sesame bun with shoestring fries. You’ll also find a kids menu and dessert options at Mill House.

Schatzi’s Pub

Another gastropub option in Poughkeepsie is Schatzi’s Pub, located at 202 Main St. Schatzi’s has 16 draft lines and a full-service German and American-inspired menu. You can check them out Monday and Wednesday through Friday from 3 p.m. to midnight, opening at noon on Saturday and Sunday. Draft options include Low Key Jb, Audacity Cold IPA, Citraspace Invader, Dogs & Boats, Cherry Raspberry Pop!, and All In. Get one of their shareable items from the menu, such as frickles, pretzel poutine, wings, or pierogies. Perhaps you’d prefer brisket or fish tacos to munch while you enjoy a brew?

Schatzi’s Burger is an 8-ounce patty topped with grilled pork belly, cheddar cheese, a potato pancake, and Schatzi’s sauce on a pretzel bun. Be sure to try their spicy cheddar bratwurst served with chipotle aioli and house-made chili dust for a unique taste. You can also have Schatzi’s macaroni and cheese, fish and chips, or sauerbraten meatballs with cheesy spaetzle for your main course.
