This one features 36 acres of natural and human-crafted beauty, including a nature trail for walking and hiking and a playground for the kids, featuring swings, slides, and climbing structures. There's even a dedicated picnic area with room for up to 200 guests. The picnic area includes picnic tables and a pavilion, so you can enjoy an outdoor meal come rain or shine. Paul A. Camarda Park also offers a soccer field, two basketball courts, and 60-foot and 90-foot baseball diamonds. So, bring your favorite workout gear and build up an appetite on the sports field before settling in for your picnic. Ready to visit? You'll find this park at 226 Seminary Hill Road, Carmel. Lake Gleneida Located in Carmel proper, the 168-acre Lake Gleneida offers the perfect backdrop for any picnic. You can choose a spot along the 2.2 miles of shoreline to spread your picnic blanket. The surrounding fields, trees, and rolling hills only add to the serene beauty of this destination. Are you looking for an even more memorable picnic experience? Why not take a rowboat out on the lake? You can snack on sandwiches and sip on sodas as you float around the peaceful waters. Just be sure to register your rowboat with the NYC DEP before you begin. If you also enjoy fishing, you'll be delighted to know Lake Gleneida is the ideal spot. It contains an abundance of trout, pickerel, bass, crappie, perch, and sunfish. Fred Dill Wildlife Sanctuary In the heart of Carmel, beside the Carmel High School, you'll find a jewel of a picnic location at the Fred Dill Wildlife Sanctuary. Established in 2004, this wildlife sanctuary and outdoor education center were named after its founder—the businessman and philanthropist Fred Dill. It's the perfect spot to reconnect with nature while snacking on your favorite picnic foods. It has a walking and hiking trail that takes about two and a half hours from one end to the other, so if you're interested in a stroll with the family or a private run before you spread out the picnic blanket, you'll enjoy the Fred Dill Wildlife Sanctuary. While you're at it, keep an eye out for birds, as this is an excellent birding location. There are also ponds, wildlife, trees, flowers, and benches throughout the area, so you have a lot of ways to find the perfect spot for your lunch. Sycamore Bark Park If you have a furry friend who you'd like to include in your picnic plans, you'll be happy to know that there are plenty of play areas for dogs at Sycamore Bark Park. This serene dog park is located at 790 Long Pond Road in Mahopac, New York, and covers about half an acre. A number of trees provide ample shade for your picnic. In fact, you can enjoy separate play areas for large and small dogs, play bridges, play tubes, and even a dog water fountain. The park is only accessible to members, so if you'd like to enjoy your picnic here, you can call 845-628-7888. Stonecrop Gardens Stonecrop Gardens offer a beautiful picnic location in Cold Spring, New York, just 20 minutes west of Carmel. What began as a private garden in 1958 is home to ornamental grasses, perennials, bulbs, woodlands, wildflowers, shrubs, vines, alpines, and a beautiful rock garden. These picturesque gardens are open to the public on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. A self-guided tour costs $10 for adults and $5 for children and seniors. You can also make a reservation to visit on other days, which can be an excellent way to ensure a quiet and peaceful picnic. Croton Gorge Park Croton Gorge Park is located about 30 minutes from Carmel and offers 97 acres of natural beauty. Significant features include the Croton River, a spillway, and the Old Croton Dam, each making a great background for a picnic. Over the dam, you'll find a gorgeous bridge that offers terrific views of the surrounding area. There are plenty of beautiful trails and paths to explore, as well as benches and grassy spots that are picnic perfect. Amenities include parking, picnic tables, swings, and restrooms. You can also enjoy activities like golfing, fishing, and hiking, so there are plenty of exciting things to do before and after you eat your picnic meal. Vision International's Annual Fundraising Gala On June 25, Vision International for Needed Children, Inc. will be hosting its annual fundraising gala at the Hilton Garden Inn in Nanuet. Horsepower - A Motorcycle Charity On August 21, 13 Hands Equine Rescue, Inc. will be hosting Horsepower - A Motorcycle Charity at the organization's facility. The event costs $65 to enter and features a motorcycle ride through Dutchess and Columbia counties. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the ride starts at 10:30 a.m. You'll travel from the facility and eventually circle back around to that same facility at 1 p.m., where you'll find a BBQ lunch waiting for you. Revitalize Soundview Park For those who don't want to spend too much money and are willing to get their hands dirty, The Bronx Is Blooming is hosting Revitalize Soundview Park. If you're looking for a healthy and inexpensive way to spend your free day, you should try hiking. Hiking is an activity that you can do alone, with friends, your children, and even your pets. Spring is a great time to discover new hiking trails, as the weather gets warmer and you can enjoy the wonderful views of nature coming back into bloom. Continue reading to learn about six of the best hiking paths around Carmel, New York. Maybrook Trailway The Maybrook Trailway hiking path is part of the Empire State Trail. It's an off-road, 15-mile paved trail that welcomes hikers, cyclists, and pets. The Maybrook Trailway can take between five to eight hours to walk and about an hour and a half to two hours to complete with a bike. When hiking, you can take a scenic lunch break in one of the beautiful fields or forests that the trail passes through. This hiking trail also passes by ponds and wetlands, which may allow you to encounter some native wildlife. The Maybrook Trailway portion of the Empire State Trail begins at the intersection of Route 292 and Holmes Road and ends at Hopewell Junction. This is considered to be an easy hiking trail because of its paved path, but since it's a relatively long trail to hike, it may be best to complete this trail with adults, as children may not have the energy to hike for this duration. Perkins Trail Perkins Trail is a hiking path in lower Hudson Valley that spans just under 4.5 miles. This trail passes by a few other great hiking spots, which can allow you to customize your hiking journey. It's easy to stay on the trail though, as you can just follow the yellow markers. Perkins Trail is a winding path that involves steep, rocky trails, so it's considered a more difficult intermediate trail. It starts at Route 301 and ends around School Mountain Road. This hiking trail passes through beautiful farmland and ponds. Due to its higher skill level, this trail may be best for individuals who have prior hiking experience. If you decide to bring your dog to keep you company, be sure to keep them on a leash, as this trail passes through private property. Old Mine Railway Old Mine Railway is a hiking trail within Clarence Fahnestock State Park that connects to other great trails, including the Three Lakes Loop and Charcoal Burner's trails. This hiking destination is just over 2.5 miles long and creates a loop, allowing hikers to see new sights throughout its duration. This trail shape makes it easier for you to find your car after you complete your hike, as well. The Old Mine Railway, Three Lakes Loop, and Charcoal Burners trails border lakes and pass through beautiful state park forests. The Old Mine Railway Trail is easy to follow and is a good trail for kids and pets. After you finish the hiking trail, you might find a great picnic destination in Clarence Fahnestock State Park. Roaring Brook Trailhead If you're looking for a challenge, you might consider visiting Roaring Brook Trailhead. This hiking destination is located in Brinckerhoff, New York, which is about a 30-minute drive from Carmel. This trail leads to Giant Mountain, the 12th highest peak in New York. Its length spans over a 7.5-mile trail and includes a scenic route with a waterfall and beautiful forest. This trail is also great for bird-watching, so consider bringing your binoculars. Roaring Brook Trailhead is considered a difficult trail, so it's best to have some hiking experience before trying it. Since it's a higher-difficulty trail, you might not want to bring your little ones on this hike. You can, however, bring your dog as long as you have a leash to keep them near you, as this is a popular trail. Cranberry Mountain Trail Cranberry Mountain Trail is located in Patterson, New York, about a 15- to 20-minute drive from Carmel. This is a secluded trail that passes a pond, slopes, and fields. Cranberry Mountain Trail is 3.5 miles long and is in the shape of a loop, so you can finish your hike right where you started. This trail emphasizes nature and wildlife, which makes it a great trail to hike for bird-watching, finding wildflowers, and seeing animals such as rabbits or deer. When hiking this trail, consider downloading an app to ensure that you don't get lost, as some sections of the trail may be harder to follow than others. This trail is both dog- and kid-friendly, though it's best to keep your dogs on a leash when using this trail. Reeves Brook Loop Trail If you want to adventure a little farther past Carmel city limits, try the Reeves Brook Loop Trail. This beautiful trail is inside Harriman State Park, which is about a 50-minute drive from Carmel. This trail is a little under 4 miles and is in the shape of a loop, which makes parking, starting, and finishing the hike easier. Reeves Brook Loop Trail passes great natural landmarks, such as caves, rock structures, forest plants, and a waterfall. Since this trail has so much scenery and activities, it may take you at least two hours to complete the trail. The Reeves Brook Loop Trail is of medium difficulty and requires some coordination to hike over rocks and down slopes, so this trail may be best for families with older children, friends, or just you and your dog. Reeves Brook Loop Trail is open year-round, but for the best experience, it's great to go in the spring. Hiking is a great opportunity to get exercise, experience nature, and witness unique landmarks. Here's a look at five of the cheapest places you can reach in your new vehicle from our Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership in Carmel, New York, and why you should go there. The monastery is well named with all of its statuary, traditional Chinese architecture in the style of the Tang Dynasty, and beautiful landscaping. The monastery is open to the public, but visitors need to follow the posted rules and not wander into restricted areas where the monks live. Always be respectful, as the monastery is a quiet reflection for both the monks and the visitors. It's open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily between April and January. Fahnestock State Park Fahnestock State Park, named for Clarence Fahnestock, is a 14,086-acre park located on Route 301 in Carmel, New York, and is part of the Hudson Highlands. It features multiple outdoor activities year-round, ranging from fishing in the summer to cross-country skiing in the winter. There are hiking trails, campgrounds with a view, places for picnicking, and boat launches on the Stillwater and Canopus Lakes. Visitors can fish on the lakes by boat or from the shoreline at one of the four ponds, and a permit is required and available from the New York State of Environmental Conservation.
