2025 Ram 1500 Towing Capacity & Features

Modern pickup trucks are probably the most versatile vehicles available today. Many of them feature modern and comfortable interiors, have excellent acceleration performance, and can easily tackle difficult off-road terrains. However, this wouldn't mean much if they weren't able to perform their primary duty, which is to tow and haul heavy things. The 2025 Ram 1500 checks all these boxes, as it's both a competent work tool and a comfortable family vehicle. more image from ramtrucks.com New Ram Inventory Ram 1500 Inventory Call Us Ram 1500 Towing Capacity When properly equipped, the 2025 Ram 1500 has a towing capacity of up to 11,580 pounds. That's near the top of its class and can help you perform a wide variety of jobs, from carrying heavy materials at work to towing a large camper or boat with you on your vacations. Having coil springs for the rear suspension also makes towing more comfortable compared to trucks using classic leaf-spring suspension. The 2025 Ram 1500 can also carry up to 2,300 pounds in its bed. Ram 1500 Engine and Powertrain Options The 2025 Ram 1500 's towing performance relies on having powerful engines to help it get the job done. The three available powertrain configurations are all paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Lower trims come with standard front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive as an option, while the latter is standard on higher trim levels. The three available engines on the 2025 Ram 1500 are: Standard V-6 Engine The 2025 Ram 1500's standard engine configuration comes with plenty of power and capability. The 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine can deliver up to 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque, with the help of an eTorque mild hybrid system. It also has an 8,110-pound towing capacity. Hurricane Engine The second available engine on the 2025 Ram 1500 is the most competent when it comes to towing and hauling. It replaces the legendary 5.7 Hemi V-8, which was featured in previous Ram 1500 models, boosting its output and performance. This 3-liter turbocharged inline-six engine has up to 420 horsepower and 469 lb-ft of torque. This helps it reach the 11,508-pound towing capacity. High-Output Hurricane Engine If you're looking for excellent acceleration performance without compromising too much on towing ability, this engine is just what you need. It's an upgraded version of the Hurricane 3-liter inline-six and can deliver up to 540 horsepower and 521 lb-ft of torque. This power and torque help the 2025 Ram 1500 reach 60 mph from a standstill in only 4.7 seconds, which is amazing for such a large, comfortable, and capable pickup truck. It also does it without compromising too much on towing performance. The Ram 1500's towing capacity with this engine is 9,920 pounds. Towing Features Other features are also essential for safe and comfortable towing, besides having a powerful engine. The 2025 Ram 1500's towing features help the driver have better control of their truck while carrying heavy loads. Some of the most useful tow-specific features include: Telescopic trailer-tow mirrors: Having a large trailer behind you can prevent you from seeing what's happening around your truck. These trailer-tow mirrors extend to give you a better view and you can also retract them back when you don't have a trailer attached. Digital rearview mirror with towing mode: A large trailer can also prevent you from seeing anything in your rearview mirror. The 2025 Ram 1500 solves this by having a trailer-mounted rear-facing camera display an image of the back of your trailer in your rearview mirror. Automatic trailer-hitch assist: This feature makes hitching your trailer quicker and easier. It automatically lines up the Ram 1500 to the trailer you want to attach it to, so you'll only have to back up into it and brake when you connect with it. Towing-specific navigation system: Towing a large trailer can be difficult on certain roads. The 2025 Ram 1500's navigation system has a special mode that will choose the optimal path for towing. 360-degree surround view: Navigating through tight spaces with a trailer attached can be a major challenge. This feature uses a 360-degree camera system to give you a top-down view of your Ram 1500, its trailer, and its surroundings, helping you make your way without any issues. Technology and Safety Being able to carry huge loads isn't enough for modern pickup trucks. They also need plenty of infotainment and safety tech to keep everyone engaged and safe throughout your trips. The 2025 Ram 1500 is well-equipped for infotainment and safety technology, even in its basic configuration. All Ram 1500 trucks have a standard 8.4-inch touchscreen interface and smartphone connectivity options through Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has a six-speaker sound system, which can be upgraded to a premium 19-speaker Harman Kardon system. Some standard active safety tech features include: Forward collision warning with automatic braking: It warns the driver if it detects an imminent frontal collision. It can even assist with the braking in certain situations. Blind-spot warning with rear cross-traffic warning: It alerts the driver if another vehicle enters its blind spot while changing lanes or reversing. Adaptive cruise control: It maintains a constant speed while driving on the highway, without you needing to press the gas pedal. It also adapts this speed on its own to keep a steady distance from the car in front. Lane-keeping assistance: It detects situations in which the Ram 1500 starts to drift out of its lane without the turn signal being activated and automatically steers it back into its original position. How Long Do RAM 1500 Transmissions Last?

When buying a pickup truck, criteria like comfort, utility, and performance can influence your selection. However, durability should also be a high priority, especially when buying a used truck. One of the most common issues for used trucks with a long history of towing and hauling heavy loads is their transmission needing repairs. Keep reading to find out how long you should expect a Ram 1500's transmission to last, what early signs can indicate transmission issues, and how to increase your Ram 1500 transmission's lifespan. more New Ram 1500 Inventory Used Ram Inventory Call Us Today What Is a Vehicle's Transmission? A vehicle's transmission is one of its most essential components. Also called a gearbox, its role is to transmit the power from the engine to the wheels as effectively and efficiently as possible. Without a transmission, the engine would be operating at maximum capacity all the time, which wouldn't allow the driver to operate the vehicle at normal speeds. By having multiple gears, the transmission ensures that the engine sends the right amount of power down to the wheels, depending on your current speed. There are two main types of transmissions: manual and automatic. They work similarly, with the significant difference being that the driver changes gears by themselves with a manual transmission, whereas an automatic transmission chooses the gears by itself. All Ram 1500 models from 2018 onwards are only equipped with automatic transmissions. What's the Average Lifespan for a Ram 1500 Transmission? Multiple factors can increase or decrease a Ram 1500 transmission's lifespan. It typically depends on how well you maintain it, your driving habits, and the environment in which you typically operate it. On average, a well-maintained Ram 1500 will last at least 200,000 miles or 15 years. You can maximize your Ram 1500's lifespan by taking it to a dealership like Meadowland of Carmel and having its transmission serviced every 30,000 to 60,000 miles. This typically consists of changing the transmission fluid and checking for early signs of deterioration. Doing this can help ensure that your Ram transmission will run well throughout your truck's lifespan. What Are Some Early Signs of a Failing Transmission? Besides taking your Ram 1500 to have its transmission checked every 30,000 to 60,000 miles, you can also look out for these early signs that your transmission may need repairing. Doing so can save you lots of time and money by resolving the issue before it gets more serious. The top signs are: Your gears won't switch. Probably the most obvious sign of a failing transmission is your Ram 1500 not changing gears when needed. The solution may be as simple as adding more transmission fluid. You hear strange noises while in neutral. Another common sign of something wrong with your transmission is hearing unusual noises from your Ram 1500 while idling in neutral. You sense a burning smell. A burning smell from your vehicle is never a good sign and should prompt you to seek professional assistance immediately. One of the potential reasons is that your transmission has old fluid. Your Ram is leaking transmission fluid. If you notice a reddish and sweet-smelling fluid underneath your Ram 1500 after it's been in the same parking spot for a while, it's probably leaking transmission fluid. You should take it to a mechanic immediately so they can identify the source of the leak. Your Check Engine light comes on: Your Ram 1500's Check Engine light may come on for various reasons. One of the more serious issues it may indicate is an issue with your transmission, so you should take your truck in for an inspection as soon as possible after seeing it coming on. How To Keep Your Ram 1500's Transmission in Excellent Shape Ram 1500 trucks are highly reliable vehicles that can last a long time when treated appropriately. These are some easy things you can do to make sure you avoid costly transmission repairs: Check Your Transmission Fluid Level Regularly Checking the transmission fluid level at least every few months is one of the quickest and easiest things you can do to keep your transmission running well for years. If you notice its level dropping, top it up to ensure the transmission is properly lubricated. You should change all of it if you notice a dirty color or a burning smell. Don't Skip Any Service Appointments A reliable pickup truck like the Ram 1500 needs regular maintenance operations to keep it running well for many years. When you bring your Ram 1500 in to have it serviced by Meadowland of Carmel's experienced mechanics, they'll change the transmission fluid and inspect the whole system to detect any issue before it becomes a major one. Equip Your Ram 1500 With the Right Features if You Regularly Tow Heavy Loads If you constantly use your Ram 1500 to tow heavy trailers, investing in some specific gear can help keep your transmission in good shape. One of the most essential features for this purpose is a transmission cooler. This helps prevent transmission from overheating when carrying several tons of extra weight. Avoid Challenging Driving Conditions Although they may be unavoidable depending on where you live and your line of work, avoiding difficult driving conditions can do wonders for your transmission's lifespan. This involves avoiding hot or cold weather and driving on rough and dusty surfaces. If you must drive in these conditions, avoid sudden brakes or accelerations. 2024 RAM 1500 Tow Capacity

2024 Ram 1500 Towing Capacity

The full-size pickup truck is America's bestselling vehicle, and the stylish Ram 1500 is among the leaders of this highly competitive class. With its dominant appearance and stout towing and payload capacities, it's one of the more capable options out there. It's offered in eight trim levels — Tradesman, Big Horn, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Limited Longhorn, Limited, and TRX. Ram always strives to improve the 1500's towing capacity with potent and refined engines, improved suspension, and high-strength frames. The 2024 iteration of this vehicle can tow up to a massive 12,750 pounds. At Meadowland of Carmel Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, we've compiled a comprehensive guide to help you understand the 2024 Ram 1500's towing capacities. Ram 1500 Powerful Engine Options Three available engine options, each paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, provide the impressive towing capacity of the 2024 Ram 1500. First up is a 3.6-liter V-6 Pentastar engine with the eTorque mild hybrid system. It delivers 305 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels or the available four-wheel-drive system. Depending on your truck's configuration, a 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine with eTorque is also available. This engine generates 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque. The Ram 1500 TRX is an off-road high-performance truck that comes exclusively with a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8. It pumps out 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. How Much Can a 2024 Ram 1500 Tow? When properly equipped, the Ram 1500 with the 3.6-liter V-6 engine, four-wheel drive, and a quad cab with the standard 6-foot-4-inch box has a maximum towing capacity ranging from 6,530 to 7,530 pounds. With rear-wheel drive, the capacity is 6,750 to 7,740 pounds. Crew cab models with four-wheel drive and the 5-foot 7-inch box can tow 6,430 to 7,430 pounds, while rear-wheel drive increases the capacity to 6,620 to 7,620 pounds. The V-6 engine also gives the Ram 1500 a payload of up to 2,330 pounds. How Much Does the Ram 1500 HEMI Tow? When equipped with the 5.7-liter V-8 HEMI eTorque engine, four-wheel drive, the crew cab, and a 6-foot-4-inch box, the 2024 Ram 1500 tow capabilities are 8,020 to 11,120 pounds, increasing to 8,310 to 11,410 pounds with rear-wheel drive. Opting for the 5-foot-7-inch bed and four-wheel drive gives you a maximum towing capacity of 8,140 to 11,240 pounds, while rear-wheel-drive models with this spec can tow a maximum of 8,300 to 11,400 pounds. Models with the quad cab only come with a 6-foot-4-inch bed. With the 5.7-liter V-8 and four-wheel drive, they can pull up to 8,220 to 11,320 pounds. Similarly equipped trucks with rear-wheel drive offer an impressive towing capacity of 8,420 to a class-leading maximum hybrid capacity of 12,750 pounds. The off-road specialized Ram 1500 TRX with its supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8 can tow up to 8,100 pounds. Can a Ram 1500 Pull a Camper? Every Ram 1500 can pull a camper, but the trailer size depends on your truck's towing capability. A truck with the lowest towing capacity of 6,430 pounds can tow a small travel trailer of 14 to 19 feet long. Higher capacity vehicles could pull a 20- to 30-foot-long camper. However, it's not just the trailer's weight but also what you carry in it. You must consider the weight of full-holding, propane, batteries, clothes, food, kitchen equipment, and other cargo. This equipment could add up to 2,000 pounds to the camper's weight. You should also consider the gross vehicle weight rating, which is the gross weight of your truck added to the trailer's gross weight. The more cargo and passengers you load in your truck, the less weight you can tow safely. Always refer to your owner's manual for weight ratings. Can You Increase the Tow Capacity on the Ram 1500? Most Ram 1500 trims come standard with a Class III bumper-mounted hitch and a seven-pin wiring harness that enables the truck to achieve its base towing capacities. Standard on the Longhorn, Limited, and TRX models and available for other trims is a Class IV receiver hitch bolted to the 98% high-strength steel frame. With this hitch, you can unleash the full trailering capability of your truck up to 12,750 pounds, depending on its specifications. Towing Packages Two towing packages are available for the Ram 1500 that upgrade your trailer towing experience.  The Trailer Tow Group includes the following trailering features: A Class IV receiver hitch. A trailer reverse steering control. A trailer brake controller. A trailer light check. A trailer tire pressure monitoring system. Heated power trailer tow mirrors with integrated turn signals and courtesy lights. This package also adds tech features to trucks that don't already have them. These include a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot, the Uconnect 5 infotainment system with an 8.4-inch touch screen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, and hands-free phone and audio. The available HEMI Max Tow Package adds more enhanced towing features, including: A beefier rear axle with a torque-optimizing gear ratio. 18-inch painted aluminum wheels with off-road tires. A full-size spare tire. A trailer brake controller. These features help you make the most of your Ram 1500's capabilities. Trailering Technology Take the stress out of backing up a trailer with the Ram 1500's available trailer reverse steering control. The trailer steering knob allows you to steer the trailer while the system controls your truck's steering wheel. The available Uconnect 12-inch touch screen, among its many other functions, enables you to view towing-specific navigation. On certain trims, you can add a 360-degree trailer surround-view camera that gives you a top-down view of what's around your truck and trailer. Are You Ready To Haul With Ram 1500? We've put together a trim overview so you can see what's available at our Ram dealership in Carmel, New York. New Ram Trucks New Ram 1500s Call Us Today 2024 RAM 1500 Tradesman The base Tradesman trim has a 3.6-liter V-6 engine capable of putting out 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft of torque. This is a good setup for most driving situations, and it gives you a solid towing capacity of up to 7,690 pounds. A larger V-8 engine is also available as an optional upgrade. It can churn out 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque and boosts your towing capacity to over 11,000 pounds. Inside the cabin, you can choose between cloth and vinyl upholstery. There are two cab options for you to consider: the Quad, which has about the same amount of legroom in the second row as a compact car, and the Crew cab, which beats its rivals with expansive second-row legroom. The Crew cab is a good choice if you regularly have adult passengers riding in the back. In terms of infotainment, the Tradesman features a 5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, and a six-speaker stereo. Upgrade to a larger 8.3-inch touchscreen and smartphone compatibility for more comfort. Another interesting upgrade option is the towing package. It gets you a trailer brake, a Class I hitch, and reverse trailer steering. You can stick with the standard rear-wheel-drive version or opt for a four-wheel-drive Tradesman as part of the Warlock package. A four-wheel-drive model is a good choice if you plan on doing some off-roading, but you tend to get better towing numbers with rear-wheel-drive trucks. 2024 RAM 1500 Tradesman HFE The Tradesman HFE includes a few additional features to give your truck a slightly more upscale feel. For example, you get 20-inch chrome alloy wheels instead of the standard 18-inch steel wheels with the Tradesman. Additionally, you benefit from a tonneau roll-up cover and side steps. The Tradesman HFE is only available with the smaller Quad cab and the longer cargo bed. This bed measures 6 feet 4 inches in length, giving you plenty of room to carry tools and equipment for your next job. The shorter cargo bed with other trims comes in at 5 feet 7 inches long. 2024 RAM 1500 Big Horn The Big Horn rides on 18-inch alloy wheels and gains extra storage features in the cabin. The seats are covered with cloth upholstery, and you'll benefit from a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The rear row has a 60-40 folding mechanism that allows you to create more space for cargo while retaining at least one rear-row seat. Opting for the Big Horn also gives you the choice between two larger touch screens: an 8.4-inch or 12-inch display. You'll have a nine-speaker stereo, a power-adjustable driver's seat, and a navigation system to guide you to your next destination. 2024 RAM 1500 Laramie The Laramie trim is only available with the larger Crew cab, ensuring your passengers have loads of space to stretch out and relax. Luxury features also appear, including leather upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, and a heated steering wheel. For added comfort, you can opt for heated and reclining rear-row seats and a 19-speaker audio system instead of the standard 10-speaker stereo. You can add air suspension for a more relaxed ride on rough terrain. A sunroof is also on offer with the Laramie trim. In addition, there's an advanced safety package with Stop & Go adaptive cruise control, a surround-view parking camera, and pedestrian detection, among other features. 2024 RAM 1500 Rebel The Rebel is your go-to option if you plan on doing a lot of off-roading. It comes standard with four-wheel drive, an electronic locking rear differential, and lifted suspension to give you added clearance. You can only get the Rebel with the Crew cab and shorter cargo bed. The Rebel also boasts several extra safety features. Among them are lane departure warning, forward automatic emergency braking, and forward collision warning. Many of the optional upgrades the Laramie offers are also available with the Rebel. The Towing package comes standard. 2024 RAM 1500 Limited Longhorn This trim is a great choice for experiencing luxury in the Crew cab. The standard features include heated and reclining second-row seats, a 12-inch touch screen, and a navigation system. You'll also benefit from 20-inch alloy wheels, a power tailgate, and a spray-in bed liner. The side steps make entering and exiting the truck easier for you and your passengers. 2024 RAM 1500 Limited The Limited trim gains the V-8 engine, air suspension, and power-adjustable side steps. Like the Limited Longhorn, this trim is only available with the Crew cab. Further standard features include premium leather seats, a 12-inch touch screen, and wireless device charging. Optional features you can add include adaptive cruise control and an automatic parking system. The one remaining trim is the range-topping TRX. It's the only one to gain the added power from the supercharged V-8 engine, which produces an eye-watering 702 horsepower. The History of Dodge & RAM

The Dodge and Ram auto brands have long been synonymous with reliable and capable vehicles. At one time, the Dodge Ram truck was one of the nation's most popular pickup trucks. Why do we no longer see Dodge Ram trucks? Are Dodge, Ram, and Chrysler the same company? Read as our Meadowland of Carmel team answers these questions and shares more about the history of Dodge and when and why Dodge and Ram split. Contact Us Dodge Inventory Search Our Specials The History of Dodge The Dodge brothers, Horace and John, began manufacturing bicycle parts in the late 1800s in the Detroit, Michigan, area. In 1900, they opened a machine shop, and in 1910, they formed the Dodge Brothers Company and began making auto parts that they sold to the Ford Motor Company and Olds Motor Works. By 1913, the Dodge brothers started manufacturing automobiles, and the first Dodge car rolled off the line in 1914. After the death of Horace and John in 1920, the Chrysler Corporation purchased the Dodge Brothers Company in 1928. To this day, the Chrysler Group, itself now a subsidiary of Stellantis, owns both the Dodge and Ram brands. The First Dodge Pickup Trucks In 1929, Dodge debuted its first pickup truck. In 1933, the brand added a ram hood ornament to the line of pickup trucks, and consumers noted the connection between Dodge and the ram symbol before Ram became a separate brand. In 1981, Chrysler created the Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, and it quickly developed a reputation as a dependable workhorse. Later, pickup trucks under the Dodge brand included the Dodge Dakota in 1987 and the Dodge Durango in 1998. Today, Dodge offers the Durango as an SUV only. In 1994, Dodge rebranded its larger, highly sought-after pickup trucks as Dodge Ram and continued making them until 2009. When and Why Did Dodge Ram Become Just Ram? In 2009, the Chrysler Group created Ram as a separate brand for its pickup trucks. Why would the company want to make the Ram brand standalone and split from the enormously popular Dodge Ram pickup truck? At the time of the split, Dodge wanted to focus on making cars, especially high-performance ones like the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger. Instead of spreading out its research and design team to develop a wide range of vehicles, the Dodge brand wanted to use its resources to create vehicles to compete with other popular cars, such as the Chevrolet Corvette and Ford Mustang. Dodge decided to develop an SUV, the Durango, geared toward families and adventure lovers. By creating the Ram brand, the parent Chrysler Group could focus its resources on building durable and capable pickup trucks and vans for personal and commercial use. What Are Some of the Advantages of the Dodge Ram Split? The Dodge brand focuses on producing luxury and high-performance vehicles. Dodge models and trims with the 6.2-liter high-output HEMI V-8 engine produce a massive 807 horsepower and 707 lb-ft of torque. Anyone who enjoys high horsepower and torque will get a thrill driving a Dodge Challenger, Charger, Hornet, or Durango. Ram designs each of its pickup trucks for durability and capability. The Ram 1500 offers four engines, including a 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel with 260 horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. The Ram 1500 TRX has the most power with its exclusive 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V-8 engine that delivers 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque. As you can see, each brand offers consumers specialized vehicles: Dodge with high-performance cars and SUVs, and Ram with durable and capable pickup trucks and vans. Current Ram Lineup Ram will offer six pickup trucks and one van in 2024. The Ram brand doesn't make cars, SUVs, or minivans and focuses on building pickup trucks with powerful engines, capable suspension systems, and a high towing capacity. The current Ram lineup includes the following: Ram 1500 Ram 1500 TRX Ram 1500 Classic Ram 2500 Ram 3500 Ram Chassis Cab Ram ProMaster The Ram 1500 pickup truck, formerly called the Dodge Ram 1500, is one of the most popular and dependable pickup trucks on the market today. When properly equipped, the Ram 1500 can tow up to 12,750 pounds. The Ram 2500, 3500, and Chassis Cab are for heavy-duty work and towing. When properly equipped, the Ram 2500 can haul up to 19,980 pounds, the Ram 3500 up to 37,090 pounds, and the Ram Chassis Cab up to 35,150 pounds. The ProMaster van is useful if you need to carry supplies safely inside the van's interior. If you're an adventure seeker, you can use it as a Class B motorhome with a camper van conversion. Current Dodge Lineup Dodge currently offers four models, including the following: Charger Challenger Durango Hornet The Dodge Charger is a four-door high-performance sports car, and the Dodge Challenger is a two-door sports coupe for those who get a thrill out of driving a high-performance muscle car. The Dodge Durango is a large SUV capable of towing up to 8,700 pounds, and the Dodge Hornet is a midsize SUV perfect for driving in urban environments, on the track, or for light backroad travels.
